Burger Trucks Bring An American Classic To The Streets

The hamburger was introduced at the 1904 St. Louis World’s Fair. It was an immediate sensation and for decades has been an American classic.

Despite today’s concern over obesity and enthusiasm for the go-green trend, the U.S. Fast Food Market Outlook for 2010 reported that U.S. burger consumption has been on the rise for several years. That’s no surprise since burgers are portable, affordable, filling and versatile. You can eat them plain or have them your way with any topping imaginable.

LA burger chefs must be the most creative on the planet. They don’t hesitate to add non-traditional cheeses, veggies and meats – or combinations of all three – to lure local foodies. Here are some food trucks that bring the burger lovers out in droves.

Cheer Burger – A Korean-American burger truck that was named after the early heavy metal band Blue Cheer. The truck team makes a mean order of truffle fries.

Da Burger Boss – Creates meaty burgers with names based on characters found in mafia-themed movies, such as The Patrolman and Mexican Mafia. The Anti Carnivoro burger is a favorite among vegetarians with its portabella mushrooms, roasted red peppers, mozzarella, sun-dried tomatoes, pesto, garlic cheese and basil.

Pie ‘n Burger – The restaurant opened in 1963 in Pasadena, and the food truck arrived decades later. In addition to hamburgers, the truck serves up slices of homemade pie in a medley of flavors.

Rounds Burgers – Started as a restaurant; then added the food truck. Rounds selects fresh ingredients to create signature burgers and sauces. Special touches include garlic mayo and caramelized onions.

Slammin’ Sliders – Has tweaked the conventional slider by substituting lobster, pulled pork, chicken and Kobe beef for the typical patty. For a side, choose Sweet Potato & Pepper Jack Croquettes or a Slammin’ Smoothie.

In addition to burgers, LA food trucks sell healthy salads, yummy sandwiches and other hot and cold menu items.
